Since 2008, a big part of the Health and Life Sciences center is focused on Value Based Health-Care (VBHC). In 2008, without official notifications, a group of national and international professionals, including VBHC Center Europe’s current Chairman Prof. Dr. Fred van Eenennaam, went to Boston to participate in the Harvard program on healthcare organized by the group around Harvard University Professor Michael E. Porter, PhD. This group was so inspired by the concepts of VBHC as developed at Harvard, that they decided to continue the discussion on this subject in the Netherlands. This informal network of academic and healthcare professionals was labeled VBHC Center Europe.
Nowadays, VBHC Center Europe has grown to an international not-for-profit organization with official members. The ever-growing community still gets new members via the large number of case teachings, the VBHC Green Belt Certification, Chapters, VBHC Prize, Annual Value Agenda working session, VBHC Thinkers Magazine readers, etc…
The Health & Life Sciences Center wants to provide a platform where vistors and members can learn about the latest theories and get inspired by the best-practices to increase patient value. Amongst others, the Center is involved in the design, organisation and teaching of the following events.
VBHC Center Europe wants to enable medical professionals, academic professionals, patient organizations, educators, healthcare managers, government officials, health insurers, and industrial innovators to start the discussion about VBHC, by providing a platform where visitors and members can learn about the VBHC concepts and best practices (by VBHC.TV, VBHC Thinkers Magazine, academic papers, etc.) as well as opportunities, to form national and international academic councils around themes and chapters of interest.
VBHC Prize rewards and recognizes inspiring initiatives that have adopted a fundamentally new line of thinking in creating excellent patient value in terms of real outcomes, real connections, and one common language. Each year, one excellent initiative is awarded the VBHC Prize, a prestigious prize awarded by a renowned international jury, and announced by honorary chairman Harvard professor Michael Porter, PhD.
All winners and nominees are great inspiring examples for everyone in health care aiming to deliver excellent patient value. Let’s celebrate the successes and hard work of all who focus on providing patient centered care. Be at the center of health care innovation, network among the pioneers in delivering patient centered care, and become inspired by great VBHC initiatives during the VBHC Prize event.
The Value Agenda NL is based on Porter’s Value Agenda and is specifically aimed at the guiding steps that have to be taken for the successful implementation in the Netherlands. The Value Agenda for the Netherlands has become more important over the years and now more than ever before. It is applied both nationally and internationally, with its potential to decrease health care cost while enhancing the quality of care. The increasing interest could be noticed from the rising number of downloads of the Value Agenda NL which is already over 25.000 and the adoption of VBHC language in
the policy documents of the Dutch government.
In the past ten years an increasing number of people throughout the world, including health providers, health insurers, industry and patient organizations, have embraced the VBHC concept. Implementing the VBHC concept to create excellent patient value is happening more and more. Knowledgeable and passionate VBHC experts are needed in implementing VBHC.
